Class Schedule

Pre-K 3 Schedule

8:20 - 8:30   Arrival:  Teachers greet children/parents.  Students select a quiet choice activity, like tabletop toys, puzzles, coloring, or books.

8:30 - 8:50   Morning Meeting: Teachers will use morning message board, and include discussion of weather, pledge, attendance, and upcoming events at school, etc.

8:50 - 9:00   Phonological Awareness:  Children will learn to discriminate the sounds of language through listening skills, rhyming skills, fingerplays, poems, and more.

9:00 - 9:15   Planned Story Time #1:  Share a book or flannel story with the children and encourage interaction.  Occasionally we will do group science experiment or math activity.

9:15 - 9:45   Small Group:  Group activities (no more than 5 children) in areas of literacy, math, science, art or cooking.  Some children work independently, while others work with lead or assistant teacher.

9:45 - 10:00   Music & Movement #1:  Lead a music and movement activity with the children.  Encourage the children to dance and sing.  Instruments and/or props are used to encourage movement.

10:00 - 10:15   Snack: in Cafe (see weekly menu), unless students have cooked a special snack.

10:15 - 11:15   Work Time/Center:  Children select interest area of choice.  Teachers observe and interact with individual children to extend play and learning.

11:15 - 12:00   Outside Time:  Children use the playground equipment and toys under adult supervision.  Teachers observe and interact with children as they jump rope, play ball games, and make nature discoveries.

12:00 - 12:30   Lunch:  Teachers assist children in preparing tables for lunch and cleaning up after lunch.  Children self-serve while adults supervise.  Teachers sit with children and encourage conversation about day's events, the meal itself, and topics of interest to children.  (See weekly menu).

12:30 - 12:45   Music & Movement #2:  Lead a music and movement activity with the children.  Encourage the children to dance and sing.  Instruments and/or props are used to encourage movement.  Finger plays, poems or songs.

12:45 - 1:00   Story Time #2:  Share a book or flannel story with the children and encourage interaction. 

1:00 - 2:00   Rest Time:  Teachers help children prepare mats and relax so they can fall asleep.  Quiet activities will be provided for children who don't sleep after second half hour.  After rest time, children put their sheet and blankets away and put their mats up.

2:00 - 2:30    Large Group/Circle Time:  Discussion of current topic or interest.  Literacy activity will be conducted, as well as student journal writing.

2:30 - 3:00   Closing Activity:  Daily review using daily message board. Story time #3, and prepare to go home.

3:00    Dismissal:  Teachers will walk children to car line.
